In a small town, known as Cecily, there lived a woman named Julianne. Julianne was expecting a baby girl in 2 weeks. She was very happy. She wanted nothing but the best for her little girl. Julianne didn’t really have any other family. She only had herself after losing her husband to a hate-crime 7 months, ago. So, she was looking forward to having an extra member to add to her home.
Julianne was fairly close to a woman named Brittany, who was also expecting in 2 weeks. They did everything together. They shopped together; they worked together; they even had their baby showers together. Julianne and Brittany were inseparable.
Brittany’s husband, John, was brutally murdered 8 months earlier by 2 teenagers who approached him one night as he was closing up the restaurant where he worked. When the officials asked the teens why the attacked John, they answered “Because he’s foreign trash.” The 2 teens were sentenced to 25 to 30 without parole. There were several hate crime attacks occurring at this time. Most were against foreign people and people with special orientations.
After the incident with John, the people of Cecily petitioned to start an Anti-Bullying watch. They wanted to make Cecily the nice and safe city that it was 6 years ago. Julianne and Brittany was President of this organization. They worked hard to purify their streets of the hatred that was hurting so many other citizens.
6 weeks after giving birth to their beautiful baby girls, Faith and Teriana, Julianne and Brittany took the Anti-Bullying organization to another level. They wanted to involve more children in the program. They thought that it would motivate the youth to stop bullying others, also. Their planned failed and the violence increased.
4 months later, a little boy was attacked on his way home from school. Apparently, a gang of kids jumped him and wrote “Go Home! You don’t belong!” all over his little body. They then went to the little boy’s home and ransacked it. It was awful. The city panicked. Everyone began to locked their windows and doors. The people of Cecily started to walk their children to and from school. Some children weren’t even allowed to go outside and play anymore. The city of Cecily was no longer a safe place to be.
When the time came for Faith to start high school, Julianne began to panic. She didn’t want her daughter to be a victim like the other children. She thought about sending Faith to a private school but although she was scared for her little girl she wanted her to live a normal life. Brittany’s daughter, Teriana, would start high school that year, too, and like Julianne, Brittany was in a state of panic, also. Julianne and Brittany decided to sit the girls down and talk to them about some of the things to be aware of, now that they were going to a bigger diversified school. Teriana and Faith agreed to stick together and watch out for each other. That however didn’t satisfy the paranoia of the two mothers.
One day, Faith, now 16 years old and a 10th grader at Cecily High, ran into the house crying. Julianne overheard her and ran behind her to see what was wrong. Faith told her about how the other kids were treating her and Teriana at Cecily High. The other students would call them names and hit on them Teriana and Faith were the Latino mutts of Cecily High. They were the only two girls who were mixed with every Latino culture known at their school. Everyday the girls would face nothing but torment and torture from the moment they arrived to the moment the departed. Julianne worried about their safety.
One day as Faith left to go home, she overheard a commotion coming from inside the community center. She ran to see what was going on. What she saw terrified her. Teriana was being beaten into the concrete by a gang of girls. Faith ran and tried to pull the girls off of her, but she wasn’t strong enough to move the girls. Two of the girl held Faith down and forced her to watch as her friend cried out and screamed for help. By the time Faith broke loose, it was too late. Teriana was lying on the concrete bleeding and unconscious. Faith quickly picked her up and ran to the hospital.
3 hours later, the doctor came out and told Faith that they had did all they could, but Teriana didn’t make it. Faith couldn’t believe it. She had watched the girls kill her friend. The doctor tried to get more information about Teriana from Faith, but she was in her own world. Faith couldn’t help but think that it could have been her. A couple minutes later Julianne, Brittany arrived at the hospital. The death of Teriana tore them all apart. It was devastating.
Later that night, Faith lied on her bed and stared at her ceiling. She wished that there was something that she could have done to prevent what had happened. Anger was slowly building up inside of her.
“I’m going to make it my duty to protect my city from being tortured by bullies. No matter what it takes. They’ll pay for what they did to you Teriana.” Faith stated aloud. She then drifted off to sleep.
A couple of days later, on her way to school, Faith was approached in front of an abandoned building by two of the girls who were involved in the beating of Teriana, Lex and Steph. “Awe, look it’s the Almighty Faith-Ann!” The girls snickered.
“Laugh all you want. This afternoon I’m going to tell the police what you did to Teriana. Then I’m going to laugh as they locked you up.” Faith smiled.
“Girl, don’t be stupid. You ain’t gon’ say nothing.” One of the girls spat as she stepped forward.
“Watch me.” Faith said as she attempted to walk away. The girls grabbed Faith and began to beat her. Faith tried to fight back but she wasn’t strong enough. Faith’s vision began to fade in and out. She knew that it was now her who was going to be buried next.
“If I die then they’ll get away with what they did. I can’t let that happen. I have to win so that Teriana get’s justice.” She thought. “I have to do this. For Teriana.”
As Faith neared her end she saw a rusty pipe lying in the grass next to her. She picked it up and swung it at the girls. They jumped back. Faith swung again. The pipe hit one of girls in the head and the other in the arm. Faith swung again but missed. The two girls ran off trying to escape Faith’s almighty wreathed.
That afternoon, Faith did as she said she would. She marched down to the police station and told them of what she had witnessed. She also told them of her bravery. The officers congratulated her on her bravery and told her that they would take care of the girls.
That night Faith went to sleep smiling. She had taken a bad beating but in the end she had gotten justice for Teriana. She knew that her friend was looking down on her smiling and thanking her.
The next day Faith, Julianne, and Brittany went and placed flowers on Teriana’s grave at Cecily Memorial. She then sat next to it and began to tell Teriana about what she had done for her. Apparently, the girls were the cause of many of the hate-crime attacks that were being made on children. After the girls were arrested the bullying in the city died down. The entire city was thankful for Faith’s bravery. She had become the new Cecily Hero!
